The Smashing Pumpkins are going back on the road this year, kicking off their 'acoustic-electro' tour on March 22.
The veteran rock act's latest run will span 20 shows, taking it from the west coast to Texas. The In Plainsong Tour will be an "acoustic-electro evening," the band announced, with longtime drummer Jimmy Chamberlain on board after stepping back in for some 2015 dates.
Fellow '90s alternative icon Liz Phair will open the show.
The Pumpkins are hyping this bundle of ‘90s alt-rock nostalgia as an “acoustic-electro” tour. Titled In Plainsong, the 19-date romp opens March 22 in Portland, Ore. and wraps April 20 in Houston. A complete itinerary is available below.
They released a statement on their website Monday: 'Building on their fans' demands for more of last year's brief, but acclaimed In Plainsong tour, The Smashing Pumpkins return to the road this spring to bring the Acoustic-Electro Evening across the country.'
According to a press release, The Smashing Pumpkins will commence work on a new album “inspired by the sounds explored in the new acoustic setting” after the tour is over. Whatever work comes out of these sessions will follow the band’s 2014 album Monuments to an Elegy.
Tickets will go on sale on Feb. 5 via Smashing Pumpkins' website, with a Feb. 2 pre-sale open to Citi card holders.
