Randy Quaid and his wife, Evi, were arrested on Friday, Oct. 9, as they tried to cross into the U.S. from Canada.
The pair were taken into custody at the Vermont border just a few days after Canadian officials said the Independence Daystar was going to be deported.
The "Independence Day" actor was detained by troopers at the Highgate Springs port of entry days after Canadian officials said he would be deported. Quaid is wanted in Santa Barbara, California, to face felony vandalism charges filed in 2010 after he and his wife, Evi, were found squatting in a guesthouse of a home they previously owned.
The pair skipped several court appearances and went to Canada, where Evi Quaid was granted citizenship. Randy Quaid's bid to gain permanent residency was denied.
The actor, 65, whose previous request for permanent resident status in Canada was denied,was arrested in Montreal on Tuesday, Oct. 6, and ordered to be deported next Wednesday.
After their arrest on Friday night, a judge set bail at $500,000 each and,according to AFP, Quaid and his wife were transferred to correctional centers. They are expected to be arraigned on Monday, Oct. 12.
Randy, the older brother of actor Dennis Quaid, is known for his roles in filmssuch as National Lampoon's Vacation and Independence Day.
